As someone who grew up, and went to school, in Redhill, I feel privileged to have opened Hatchlands Primary School for the children of the local community. Hatchlands is a happy and vibrant school where our ethos and values are key to developing successful and resilient children with a thirst for learning.
At Hatchlands, we passionately believe that children’s learning should be based around their interests so our highly-skilled teaching team plan creative learning opportunities to inspire and enthuse our children. The curriculum belongs to the children and it is our job as practitioners to help shape the learning experiences around themes that excite them and lead to the children challenging themselves in their learning. We also believe that we are responsible for our planet and local environment and we encourage our children to learn about sustainability and the choices we can all make to ensure that we leave our environment in a positive state for future generations.
The key pillars of our curriculum are Maths Mastery, Talk for Writing and high quality phonics teaching. We also believe that children’s learning shouldn’t just take place in the classroom so we encourage the children to learn outside wherever possible. Forest School is a key part of our curriculum and all children in reception take part in a weekly Forest School session. This will continue for children in years 1 and 2 as the school grows. As we continue to expand to have key stage 2 children, we will continue to provide regular Forest School opportunities for every child in every year group.
As a parent myself, I know how important the first year of school is in shaping your child’s future in education and at Hatchlands Primary School, we strive to provide your children with the best possible start to their school life. I believe in the importance of teaching the basic skills of English and Maths well but also in providing opportunities to ignite children’s passion in other areas of learning such as Music, Art, Sport or Science for example.
I am passionate about working in partnership with parents to enable children to succeed and our brilliant staff team develop positive relationships with all members of our school community.
