The Phonics Screening Check will take place in the week beginning Monday 8 June 2026. Its purpose is to confirm that all children have learnt phonics decoding to an age-appropriate standard.
The check comprises 40 words, a mix of real and pseudo (alien) words, is administered 1-to-1 by a familiar adult. Results help us identify pupils who may benefit from additional phonics support.
For more information about phonics teaching and how we prepare children at Hatchlands, please visit the phonics section on our website.
