Sustainable Travel News February 2025 - Update from the Travel Tracker Team
Our school value of respect has the motto of ‘we value everyone and everything’. One of the many ways we live by this value is through our promotion of sustainable travel for staff, pupils and families. There are many benefits to walking, cycling or scooting to school such as:
We have a bike and scooter shelter outside the office where they can be safely stored during the school day.
Hatchlands Primary School provides a free walking bus every morning which departs from Donyngs Leisure Centre car park at 8:30am. Booking is needed via the form below which is also included in our monthly newsletter. Children who use the walking bus collect badges weekly. If you are an adult who would like to support by supervising the walking bus please see our walking bus advert in our vacancies section of the website.
We promote sustainable travel in Key Stage 2 by recording the way children travel to school, scoring points for their class for active travel. An active journey is anything that includes physical activity - walking, cycling, scooting etc. Travelling by car, bus and rail is not classed as active unless you get out early and walk for at least ten minutes (this is Park & Stride).
